Join SPARK on Saturday June 24th for ARRL Field Day. This years location will be at EMA Headquarters located at 1511 N. Ohio in Sedalia. Set up for the radios will begin around 10am. We will start operating at 1pm local time and hopefully do it for 24 hours. This is a great opportunity for members to work HF radio. We are planning to have a potluck dinner around 6pm. Club will provide burgers, hot dogs, plates, bowls, and utensils. Just bring your favorite covered dish. Great opportunity to hang out, invite a friend who might be interested in ham radio, and hopefully make contacts all around the world. We will cease operating on Sunday June 25th at 1pm. Hope to see everyone there.
Size DOES Matter!
I checked the APRS map this morning and caught Mark, K0NYE road trippin’. He hit the Sedalia Igate past where he crossed the river at Lexington. Google Maps measured it at 49 miles. Something to be said about having your Igate antenna at 400+ feet!
Update: I looked again later and he hit the Sedalia Igate when he was passing through Polo at 72 miles. Good job on the Igate Steve and Doc!
Special Delivery
Had a great time visiting my friend Philip (KJ5ZW) in Texas this past weekend. Although the trip was a short one, I did make some lasting memories. And yes I did deliver his brownies that he won because nobody guessed that he was the “Who’s It” in a past newsletter.

Blast From the Past
Here’s a net from the Stover repeater from 2009 featuring several memorable SKs.
Tom Huff, N0AYI, SK (in the city of Vesailles) Calls the net. Dick Hunt, KC0FDF, SK, Paul Minor, AA0XG, SK checks in as well as Art Thompson, KC0QMP, SK.
Several others who are not SK check in including our very own KJ5ZW (14 years younger than now!) that gets to talk to his son in Texas via Echolink.
I recorded this on the same radio that I was transmitting on, so portions of it are inaudible including the Echolink.

SAFE SPACE NET
As we discussed at our May meeting, we will be conducting a special net. Our 1st Safe Space Net will be held on Tuesday May 16th beginning at 7:00 pm. The net will be held on our 2m repeater (147.030 – (179.9) ). The purpose of this net is to check out our radios in our storm ready safe space. What we want each of you to find out in the event of a major weather event if you can reach the repeater in your safe place. We want everybody to be able to communicate in their safe space in event that power, cell service, etc are disrupted. This could be a safety issue and we want to make sure that you are prepared. The check in process is simple:
1) you will give your call sign and location
2) you will be asked what type of radio your using (ht–base)
3) your power source (battery–conventional)
We will have a short preamble to get things started. There will be no in & outs, just a regular check in and providing the information above. Once you check in, net control will provide you with how well your signal is reaching our repeater. It’s that simple. We hope that you will take advantage of this special net. We look forward to hearing from you on May 16th. Richard ke0qya 73’s
